It's family time

Sometimes my garden hides away its little gems. One friend once commented "how do you know where everything is?" I've tended this garden since I built it back in July/ August and have been keeping an eye on the progress of all the little plants contained within. One purple cabbage I've been watching had to be uncovered from weeds for harvesting. Today was its day to shine. Peeling back the layers of this dull cabbage revealed a magnificent bright purple. Just what I needed to put that splash of colour in a pile of coleslaw. I'm still getting into the groove when growing things like cabbage. I don't think I really appreciated in the past how long that it can take. Hopefully I will be able to keep the produce coming with successional planting in the future but today I'm pleased I planted this little seedling months and months ago!

I've been working really hard to have my home clean and tidy for a family gathering this weekend. We don't come together too often these days but it feels like a celebration whenever we can make it happen. Certainly an occasion worthy of having a home well presented. It was lovely to see aunts, uncles, cousins, and of course my immediate family and catch up on all the happenings since the last gathering. I was happy to be able to share some salads prepared from produce picked from the garden and enjoyed what everyone else brought along to add to what turned out to be a feast!

It was fantastic to see everyone and thanks for coming!
